Frequently Asked Questions About InStep
What is a Biomechanical Evaluation? Our biomechanical evaluations are split into a Biomechanical Footwear Analysis and a Comprehensive Running Injury Assessment.
A Biomechanical Footwear Analysis consists of assessing lower extremity mechanics in standing, single leg standing, squatting, single leg squatting, walking, lower extremity range of motion assessment, and video taped analysis of walking and running. Specific shoe fit and function can be determined and confirmed by slow motion frame by frame replay. This evaluation is appropriate for the person who wants to determine the exact shoe to provide the maximum benefit for them.
A Comprehensive Running Injury Assessment consists of a detailed physical therapy evaluation including diagnosis and treatment of an injury in addition to aforementioned aspects of the Biomechanical Footwear Analysis. This evaluation is appropriate for the person that has developed an injury limiting or affecting performance.
Do I need to make an appointment for a Biomechanical Evaluation?
Yes
Are Biomechanical Evaluations free?
Because Biomechanical Evaluations are done by a physical therapist and can take up to an hour, there is a fee for this service. Please call the store for pricing. As always, we offer a free gait analysis for all customers.
You offer free Foot and Gait Analysis? What is that?
A foot and gait analysis consists of an assessment of static and dynamic lower extremity mechanics, inspection of wear patterns of shoes, consideration of previous injuries (if necessary), and recommendation for appropriate shoes and/or inserts. This will be carried out by a health care professional or our experienced running staff.

Why should I buy shoes at InStep when I can get the same brand at Kohl's for less?
Shoe companies make many types of shoes in all categories (motion control, stability, and neutral), and at all price points. The shoes available at lower price points are constructed of less durable materials with fewer technical features, and provide significantly less cushioning and stability. These shoes are most often in the neutral category and would not be suitable for those requiring stability or motion control. In short, you generally aren't getting the same shoe at a discount store that you get at InStep.
What types of payment do you accept?
Cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
Can I order a pair of shoes by calling InStep on the phone?

Will InStep ship the shoes directly to me?
